Significator Table in KP Astrology — 4-Level Analysis Explained

What Is a Significator Table?

In Krishnamurti Paddhati astrology, the significator table is the backbone of every prediction. It tells you which planets have the authority to deliver results for each of the 12 houses. Without building this table correctly, even the most experienced KP astrologer cannot arrive at a reliable prediction.

The 4 Levels of Significatorship

Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti laid down a systematic hierarchy of four levels. A planet can signify a house through any combination of these levels, and their relative strength matters.

Level 1 — Planets in the Star of Occupants

The strongest significators are planets posited in the nakshatra (star) of planets that occupy a particular house. If Mars occupies the 10th house, then every planet sitting in the star of Mars becomes a strong significator of the 10th house. This level carries the highest weight because the star lord channels the occupant's energy.

Level 2 — Occupants of the House

The planet that physically sits inside a house is the next strongest significator. However, if other planets are in that occupant's star (Level 1), those star-tenants take priority. An occupant with no planets in its stars delivers its results directly.

Level 3 — Planets in the Star of House Owners

The owner (lord) of a house sign is a significator at the third level. Planets deposited in the nakshatra of that owner gain significatorship of the house. For example, if Jupiter owns the 2nd cusp and Venus is in Jupiter's star, Venus becomes a Level 3 significator of the 2nd house.

Level 4 — House Owners Themselves

When no planet occupies a house and no planet sits in the owner's star, the owner itself acts as significator. This is the weakest level and activates only as a fallback.

How to Build the Table Step-by-Step

List all 12 cusps and their sign lords.

Note which planets occupy each house (using Placidus cusps).

For each occupant, list all planets in that occupant's nakshatra — these are Level 1 significators for that house.

Record the occupant itself as Level 2.

Find planets in the star of the cusp lord — Level 3.

If no planets exist at Levels 1-3, record the cusp lord as Level 4.

Reading the Table for Predictions

Once your significator table is ready, you combine it with the ruling planets of the moment to confirm which planets will actually deliver results. A planet appearing as a significator of multiple related houses — say 2, 6, and 10 for a career question — becomes a powerful indicator.

Platforms like Astro Chart auto-generate the full significator table for all 12 houses the moment you enter birth details. The table is part of the comprehensive 14-section KP report, so you can skip the manual calculation and jump straight to interpretation.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Ignoring Level 1 and giving too much weight to house owners.

Forgetting that Rahu and Ketu act as agents of their star lord and sign lord.

Not checking the sub-lord to confirm whether the significator will give positive or negative results.
