RESEARCH ON RULING PLANETS
Ruling Planets plays an important role in KP Astrology. Now we need to know what Ruling Planet or RP is. As we know every moment of our life is controlled by planets. In “Srimad Bhagbat Geeta” Ekadosh Adhay (Chapter-11, Sloka-32 & 33) lord Krishna told Arjuna:
"KAALOHASMI LOKOKSHYAKRITO PROBRIDDHA, LOKAN SAMHARTU MIHO PRABITTO...........MAYAI-BAITE NIHATA PURBAMEBO, NIMITTO MATRANG VABO SABYASACHIN”
That means every moment of our life is destined. We only face them according to the incident.
Late Professor Sri K.S. Krishnamurti – a master and a genius in astrology discovered the unique efficacy of the RULING PLANETS. They act as a lodestar for the astrologers to predict future events with great accuracy. The concept and principles of Ruling Planets are free from any complications and doubts when applied properly in analyzing the fructification of the events. Repeatedly it has been tested successfully by many K.P followers in arriving at the results accurately with the help of ruling planets.
No event in this world, including the thinking of human beings, is exempt from the influence of planets. Guruji has said “Buddhi Karmaanusaarini”, i.e., the mind of a person works as per his Karma and the thoughts that arise are a consequence of the karmic burden which everyone carries. Thus, in Horary Astrology, when someone utters a number for a question, he/she poses; the number is influenced by the collective planetary influences at that time, which in turn is dependent on the Karmic burden of the individual.
Thus, while assessing almost every question in Krishnamurti Padhdhati one should make use of the ruling planets. In some cases, when the querist’ urge to ask a question is very strong or the astrologer gets a very powerful urge to answer a query, Guruji has said that one need not consider anything other than the ruling planets at the moment to analyze the matter at hand. In all cases, without fail, if the urge is sincere and the intent is benign, the ruling planets will guide the receptive astrologer in understanding and judging a problem.
Late Professor Sri K.S. Krishnamurti has brought this theory in a new & scientific way. He noticed that though every moment is ruled by some planets among them Lagna & Chandra is most vital. Because Lagna means soul or myself and Chandra means mind. So, the vibration of soul and mind are the most important for every moment and each day is controlled by one or other planets, so he selected Lagna, Moon & Day Lord as ruling planets.
Nakshatra has got more importance than planets in the KP system, and even much more importance has been given to sublord means division of Nakshatra. We all know that the planet is the source for an event, the star lord of that planet shows the nature for an event and the Sublord is the final authority who will tell us whether the event will take place or not. That’s why Day Lord, Moon Sign Lord, Moon Star Lord, Ascendant Lord, Ascendant Star Lord which is introduced later will be considered as Ruling Planets or RP.
When we are doing RP, we will find who is the strongest, stronger, weak and weaker Ruling Planets. Before finding out, we need to remember that Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti has introduced the 4 RPs i.e.
1) Lagna sign lord 2) Moon star lord 3) Moon sign lord and 4) Day lord (Clarification needed: Is Day Lord determination from Sun Rise to the next Sun Rise or Calendar day? KSK recommends Sun Rise); in brief we will tell them LSRD. But later some KP stalwarts and some KP scholars introduced Lagna star lord or as well as lagna sublord as RP.
In these discussed RP, Lagna star lord is the strongest RP it comes in 1st grade, Moon star lord is the strong RP and comes in 2nd grade, then comes Lagna lord it is in the 3rd grade, Moon sign lord comes in 4th grade and Day lord is the weaker significator its comes in 5th grade.
The ascendant sub lord of a RP only can tell whether the event will take place quickly or after some obstacle or the event will not be materialized etc. If the sub lord of a RP becomes a faster planet like Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury and Venus then the event will take place soon; the nature of the event can be predicted through the behaviour of these planets like if you lost some articles whether it is theft or lost can be predicted by RP.
If it is theft the description of the thief can be judged from the sub lord of 7th cusp. Like if the sub lord of the 7th cup becomes Sun then a middle aged man with sober looks. If the Moon then young lady, if Mars then guard of this house or male servant, if Mercury then outsider, if Jupiter then priest, if Venus then mature lady, if Saturn then very aged servant.
So, if we mix with rashis behaviour and planets behaviour we can easily define the nature of that event, but the target should be, by the sub of RP lagna. If the sub of RP lagna becomes slow moving planets like Jupiter and Saturn the event will take place after some delay, if nodes like Rahu and Ketu becomes the sub lord of RP lagna it will represent their sign lord but may cause so much obstacle to mature that event.
Remember the sub lord of RP lagna becomes retrograde then the event may take place after so much obstacle or after the planet becomes in direct motion, but if the sub lord of RP lagna in the star of a retrograde planet it indicates only denied or negative result.
Point to be noted if any planet in retrograde motion is deposited in the constellation of SUN or if his star lord is posited within 5 degrees of luminaries like SUN or Moon then there will be no negative result for this retrogression. If three or more planets become retrograde in RP, leave that RP and do it fresh after some time.
In this context I would like to draw the attention of readers to the topic of “RULING PLANETS” and it can be additionally used for-
- Fast predictions can be given based on RPs.
- Choosing the fruitful significators
- Birth time rectification
- Correctness of house cuspal sublord
- Selection of correct DBA
- Timing of the events
- Knowing “Genuineness” of query in Horary or Prashna chart etc.
Now I am going to discuss the “Golden Secrets of Ruling planets which I have found during practical analysis of my clients-based horoscopes as well as my long extensive research on RPs.
Actually, I have failed many times in predicting the exact time such events like the arrival of electricity, friend’s arrival, exact time of plane touching in Air-Port etc.
Many times, I have seen that friends arrived when an ascendant was transiting from such a sign, star or sub; some lords of which were not found present in the ruling planets.
I have also observed when a marriage happened in the DBA lord of which was not present in the judgement time ruling planets.
Such things made me to thought more and more and by the Grace of Lord Maha Ganapathy I have found TOP TEN secrets about Ruling Planets which I am going to discuss in front of you:
I have found that:
- A ruling planet does not become strong even if it repeats itself. Where it appears in the hierarchy is the most important factor.
- A ruling planet posited in the sub of another ruling planet is much stronger than other RPs.
- In Prashna or Horary chart we should take the prime cuspal sublord as Ruling planet or RP. For example, for marriage – if the 7th cuspal sublord is Mars – then Mars is able to act as RP.
- A planet posited in the rising Lagna at the time of judgement should be considered as RP.
- Though a planet is not present in RP but if its starlord and sublord both are present in RPs then we have considered the said planet as RPs.
- Remember that the Karaka planet is also able to act as RP if its star lord and sublord are not retrograde and similarly if the Karaka planet is not getting any adverse aspects from other planets. For example, for marriage Venus can also act as RP if Venus fulfils the said readings.
- Planets conjoined with RPs or prime cusp [within 3°-20’ orb for fast moving planets, within 8 degrees for slow moving planets] can also be considered as RP.
- If a planet is aspected by another RP planet then that planet is also to be considered as RP.
- If planets viz. Venus, Mercury or Jupiter are present in the RPs indicates the result is quite favourable.
- If planets viz. Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu are present in RPs indicating delay and sometimes may dejection of the event.
Some more added Inputs on Ruling Planets:
We should also include those planets that are conjoined with the above RPs within an orb of 5 degrees. Whenever a planet is in rapid conjunction with RPs that planet will find a place at the time of fructification of the event.
If any planet is aspected by the RPs then that planet is to be included in the RPs. Also include the Nodes tenanting the signs of the RPs (Query: Should the node replace the sign lord, or is it additionally included? says the node should replace the sign lord as RP). If a planet is the RPs, then that planet is an RP.
When applied to the Natal chart, RPs will agree fully with the Dasa, Bhukti and Anthara periods in operation.
If an RP is in the constellation or sub of a retrograde planet, discard it. If the RP is retrograde, but in the star and sub of planets in direct motion, then the RP can be taken. However, the RP will not give its results until it becomes direct.
However strong a RP is, it cannot fructify the desired result if it is conjoined with or aspected by Saturn. So is the case of Punarphoo Dosha caused when the Moon is in a sign, star and sub of Saturn. Then the Moon in the capacity of a RP cannot be useful.
An RP posited in the star or sub of another RP is powerful. An RP in its own sub is very powerful. If the RP is found in retrograde motion, it should be eliminated.
Although Sun’s position is not included as an RP, observes that if the sign lord and star lord of Sun are common among the already selected RPs, then Sun’s star lord and sign lord become strongest to offer results according to their disposition.
If an RP is in the sub of another RPs who is detrimental to the house to be judged for a particular matter by being the significator of houses 8 and 12 to the house to be judged, then this is not a fruitful RP.
It may also be concluded that Ruling Planets at the time of event will be the same as at the time of Judgment.
APPLICATION OF NODES IN RULING PLANETS
Node should be considered as a ruling planet. In fact, as said in an earlier, a node is more powerful than the planet it represents and can be included “instead of” the concerned planet.
Nodes can become RP only in the following conditions:
a.Conjunct with a RP
b.Aspected by a RP.
c. In the Zodiacal Sign of the RP
It is kept in mind that Rahu and Ketu will be included in the RP list instead of replacing the original RP and more focus should be on the Nodes while making the predictions. Nodes represent RPs but not vice versa.
Rules Regarding Nodes and RPs:
- If a Node is conjoined with an RP, then the Node is an agent for that RP
- If a Node is aspected by an RP, then the Node is an agent for that RP
- If a Node is in the sign owned by an RP, then the Node is an agent for that RP
- If a Node is in the star of an RP, then the Node is an agent for that RP
But if the node is deposited in the sub of a retrograde planet, then the node carries no strength.
However, when a Node directly appears as a RP, then does not include the following planets as RPs:
- Planets conjoined with the Node
- Planets aspected by the Node
- Lord of the sign where the Node is located
Let me try to explain to you with an example. Suppose in a Horary chart Rahu is in the RP at the time of judgement and Saturn conjunct with Rahu, will Saturn also be considered as the Ruling Planet? The answer is NO.
The reason behind it is, as we know that the Nodes represent the planet but the planet does not represent the Nodes. In this case a shadow planet Rahu without a physical body like other planets acts as an agent of conjunct Saturn and gives the results of Saturn, but Saturn cannot give the results of Rahu.
It’s to note that the results of conjunct Saturn are given by Rahu in one side direction but not in both reciprocal ways i.e. Saturn cannot give the results of Rahu. So, Saturn should not be considered as a Ruling Planet in conjunction with Rahu which is a Ruling Planet.
If an RP appears multiple times in the RPs list, then it gets more powerful. For “aspect” calculation, it is recommended to use Hindu aspects.
If the occupant or the owner of 11th house or Lagna Sub Lord RP is a fast-moving planet the event will take place early and if it is a slow-moving planet, the event will take a long time to fructify. Fast moving planets are: Moon, Venus, Mercury, Sun. and Mars. Slow moving planets are: Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu.
Now we are going to discuss another important research-based secret on RPs : how to fix a sensitive zone in RP for when the event will take place. Readers are advised to read it carefully.
As we know Aries to Cancer is known as the 1st zone of the Zodiac, Leo to Scorpio is the 2nd zone of our Zodiac and Sagittarius to Pisces is known as the 3rd zone of the Zodiac. In case the event will take place within 24 hours we have to look at the ascendant.
If the ascendant sign in RP, falls in movable sign then the event may take place when the fruitful significators in the RP transit through the same sensitive zone.
- If the Ascendant sign in RP, falls in a fixed sign then the event will take place when the fruitful significator or RP transit 3rd zone from where ascendant falls. For example, ascendant falls in Leo, as we know Leo is a fixed sign and natural 2nd zone of the Zodiac. The 3rd zone from this 2nd zone is Aries to Cancer. So, when the ascendant transit through Aries to Cancer the event will take place.
- If the ascendant sign falls in common sign the event can take place when the RP significators transit from the 2nd zone of the following ascendant zone. For example, if ascendant falls in Sagittarius, so Aries to Cancer becomes the 2nd zone from Sagittarius.
Similarly, in case the matter is not expected on the same day, but expected to happen within a few days we have to see the “MOON” transit in the same way. If the incident happens within a few months we have to see the “SUN” transit as discussed earlier.
ELIMINATION OF RULING PLANETS
When deciding the time of an event, one considers the ruling planets. If one is judging a horary chart, then one should take the planets which are common between the significators of the matter concerned and also the ruling planets at the time of judgment. However, one must exercise caution in this. Those ruling planets which are in the star of a retrograde planet or in the sub of a retrograde planet, have to be rejected as they never vote for the positive result in any manner. However, if a ruling planet is itself retrograde, but is in the star and sub of a planet in direct motion, then one need not reject the same. But one should note that the retrograde planet will not give favorable results until it becomes direct again and also crosses the point at which it turned retrograde. For example, if Jupiter is retrograde on a given date and it was in 10° 30’ in Libra when it started retrograding, then one has to wait for the time until Jupiter resumes direct motion and also crosses 10° 30’ in Libra for it to give favorable results. You may select a planet which is retrograde and get to know when the planet turned retrograde and what its longitude was at that time. You will also get information on when the planet resumes direct motion and across the point of retro gradation.
Also, one should note that ruling planets which are detrimental to the matters signified by a bhava have to be eliminated as they do not give positive results. Thus, if one is judging the results of the 10th bhava and one finds that the 2 of the planets among the ruling planets at the time judgment are significators of the 9th bhava, then these two planets have to be eliminated in judging the results.
USE OF RULING PLANETS IN RECTIFYING BIRTH TIME
Professor Shri K.S. Krishnamurti ji has noted that the planets ruling the time of judgment will be tally with the ruling planets at the time of birth of an individual. Even the sign lord, star lord, sub lord and sub-sub lord of the Ascendant at the birth. However, the sign lord, star lord, sublord and sub-sub lord of the Ascendant at the birth are found either in the star or sub of the Ruling Planet or planets at the time of judgement.
Further, in doubtful cases where two times for the birth are given in that case follow the procedure narrated below:
a. Note the sign lord, star lord, sub lord and sub-sub lord of the Ascendant at the birth for two given times.
b. The case in which the sign lord, star lord, sub lord and sub-sub lord of the Ascendant agree with the Ruling Planets at the time of Judgement, accept the time in that case as the correct time of birth and reject the other.
c. In case of any doubt, the judgement should be based on the preference of the Lagna sign, star and sub lords that match with the Ruling Planets. Lagan is of primary importance, then comes the importance of the Moon.
This simple rule helps us to rectify birth times accurately. I have implemented this rule under the birth time rectification portion and make it easy for you to rectify birth times based on the ruling planets at the time of judgment. We will study more of Birth Time Rectification in another chapter in this book with reference.
INSTANT PREDICTIONS TO BE MAKING USING RULING PLANETS
There is immense use of RPs if you are able to understand the language of the RPs and what exact correspondence they are indicating to your end. In my practical experience I have seen that you can get the answers to any type of query in your life through this divine guide.
While applying the RPs in day-to-day events, you need to remember the following important subtle:
a. Presence of luminaries like Sun in case of male native and Moon in case of female native in the RPs indicate positive results of the events.
b. Presence of Jupiter’s in the RPs also indicate “favourable” outcome of the events.
c. The presence of Saturn in the RPs makes an unusual delay in the matter to happen.
d. The presence of Jupiter and Saturn indicates slow progress of the desired results.
e. Fast moving planets such as Moon, Mercury, Sun, Venus and Mars if present in the RP, indicate prompt results.
f. Presence of Rahu in the RPs as a direct RP indicates the occurrence of vast results than was expected by the querist. Similarly, presence of ketu in the RPs as a direct RP indicators happening of meager result than was excepted by the querist.
Thus, to conclude, ruling planets are a vital tenet of Kreishnamurti Padhadhati are every Querry should be judged after taking these into consideration.
