MOON IN GENERAL

At the initial stage itself, one must remember that the Moon is the exclusive ruler of the MIND in case of all humans. Sharpness in thought, tendency to maintain secrecy are all basic attributes of Moon, irrespective of the house occupied. Further it is deemed to be concerned with travels across the waters (sea and ocean), sometimes with settlement in a country other than that of one's birth. Moon is also concerned with higher education in science or medical line (branch or system is immaterial) in own country or in a foreign country. No doubt, with regard to subjects other than the MIND, Moon gives results depending on support from or conflict with other soft or hard planets, as also Moon's relationship with the lord of the house occupied by it.

One very important point to be borne in mind is that Moon takes on an average 54 hours (in all) to move from one Rasi to another, and generally, within 27 or 28 days, Moon completes its one round of the entire zodiac (i.e. all the 12 houses). We all know that the Moon is directly concerned with Tide, and also has control over storms and other troubles in the waters (of seas and oceans).

The Moon's fast movement (fastest among all planets) has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is fast in giving good and bad results, but the impact of the results sometimes lasts for long. Virtually every month (one day short or one day in excess) it goes combust in the company of the Sun, and then as soon as it moves out of the Sun's vicinity, it starts growing in size as it is visible from Earth. Similarly, it is visible in its full size on Full Moon Day, and simultaneously its size starts reducing in visibility from Earth, so much so that when it reaches the vicinity of the Sun, it becomes invisible from Earth. In astronomy, the size of the Moon is the same throughout the month, and it is only a question of Earth coming between Moon and Sun and thereby increasing or reducing its visibility.

However it is a different story in astrology. The waxing Moon, from the 5th day of the Bright Half (Shukla Paksha in Indian languages) till the 5th day after the Full Moon Day (Poornima) is considered not so harmful and trouble-giver, in whatever house the Moon is in the birth-chart or the yearly chart or in transit.

On the other hand, it is considered more harmful and trouble-giver from the 5th day of the Dark Half (Krishna Paksha in Indian languages) till the 5th day of the Bright Half, i.e., when the Moon is in a waning position.

Above given are a few points that should be kept in mind while giving predictions about the Moon in a birth chart or in a yearly chart.
